CSI Milford

Day 1 Report:

Observations

The penguin is missing
each teacher had a felt pen/marker
many people we looked for had a black pen/marker

Background Information

technique for separating and identifying mixtures that are or can be colored
http://homepages.ius.edu/DSPURLOC/c121/week9.htm

Inferences or Hypothesis

My inferences are that Mr.Hood took the penguin because he had a penguin on his computer with a cross over it. He also had a black marker on his desk like he was suspicious.

Tests Performed

Gathered pens

Data

all of the pens that we gathered together
Mr.Hood had a picture with a penguin crossed off on it and Mr.Beil had a poster with the crossed off penguin on it

Conclusions

We dont know who took the penguin and or who had the evidence. I think Mrs.Cravener has nothing to do with it because she acted totally clueless when we asked for a pen.

Day 2 Report:

Observations

Mrs.Kershman has only one color coming off of her pen and Mrs.Craveners pen is responding differently hers is starting to change to a blueish color and spread through the paper. Some of the pens responded to the alcohol differently then other. As in the changed faster or slower, different colors and ect.

Background Information

everyone has different pens and they all came out different results from the test

Inferences or Hypothesis

Tests Performed

Paper Chromatography
  • Mrs.Kershman isnt changing color
  • Mrs.Cravener is changing to a blueish color
  • Mrs.Rhodes is changing to a red and blue separating
  • Mrs.Laguna isnt changing
  • Mr.Hood Changing to a blue color
  • Mr.lancos starting to change to blue but isnt changing fast as most of the others. Changed to purple and blue.

Data

Conclusions

The penguin is still missing and not to be found or who took it. We took the test and now we need a sample of the note that they wrote and we will find out which pen matches with note.

Day 3 Report:

Observations

A penguin is still, in hall way with a unknown liquid next to it.

Background Information

There is a unknown liquid next to the penguin and is going to be tested

Inferences or Hypothesis

The unknown liquid might be something that would "kill" the penguin
The Heating curve increased and then stayed and raised only by one and stayed the same

Tests Performed

Density

Conclusion

The Heating curve increased and then stayed and raised only by one

Day 3 Report:

Observations

There is a note from mrs.cravener and the paper matched the note about the penguin .

Background Information

The penguin was found! But laying next to a unknown substance

Inferences or Hypothesis

When the heating curve got as high as 78 and stayed like that for a longer time and every other time was because it was at the

Conclusion

Since Mrs.Cravener is not responding to the penguin being gone like everyone else is im starting to thing that she is going to have something to do with the penguin
