Summarizing Labs

Lenghth Lab:
A summary of the Measurement and Lab Equipment, is How to measure things with using the tools rulers, and meter sticks. Into a table, we sectioned what you think you know about rulers, and how to measure things with them. Also, we had to convert meters to centimeters and centimeters to millimeters. We then found the volume of our lockers using the formula: V=LxWxH. A helpful tip is the parallax error meaning to read the ruler straight on so you get the correct measurement.

Cars and Ramps Lab

  • Table is set on a ramp
  • Car is topless
  • Car is yellow
  • Car moves own the ramp a a slower rate then expected
  • car moves on a curve every time
  • moves faster towards the bottom of the ramp
  • moves at the same rate going backwards
  • Starts swerving at 1 meter when put on the side of the meter stick
  • Car has a weight of 0.33 Newtons
  • Car has a mass of 0.08 Meters
  • Car has the Potential energy of 0.0264 Joules

Temp. Lab
  • The Temperatures were similar.
  • Hands do not measure temp. well.
Heat- The transfer of energy between objects that are different temperatures.
Thermal Equilibrium- The pount at which two objects reach the same temperature. The objects in the room are at thermal equilibrium with air in the room.

Experiment With Water
Test Subject
Which Tub is the Warmest?
1. Will
Tub B
2 Zack
Tub B
3. Alex
Tub B
4.Shelby
Tub B
Tub A: 20.2 oC
Tub B: 20.0 oC
Explanation:
I believe the reason why Tub B was only .2 degrees colder and thought to be the warmest is because the particles in Tub A might have sowed down at a faster rate than Tub B, making the temperature colder in Tub A.
  • Heat- The transfer of energy between objects that are different temperatures.
  • Heat always goes from a higher temperature to a lower temperature
  • Heat flows, cold air doesn't
  • Heat has more energy, Cold has less energy
  1. The energy went from the hot water into the hand, warm energy went into the cold water
  2. Move hands to room temperature water hot water- "ouch feels hot!" cold water- "feels cold"

Indirect observation Lab
Summarize your observation lab.
My observations were had more of angled paths when the marble was rolled underneath the paper. These paths consisted of "V" shaped pathways. There ere also more acute angles as well as obtuse angles than straight paths. The marble was being hit time after time when rolled but was also moving straight down through the paper.

My Chemical element is Argon. My family is noble gases. Other chemical families I've heard of are metals, metalloids, and nonmetals.

March 5th, 2014

Both these families are non metals. Noble gases do not react with potassium nor lithium. Halogen family are very
reactive non metal gases.

1. in a chemical reaction, atoms are rearranged to form compounds just like rearranging letters in the game.
2. just like new words have different meanings than the old words, the new compounds have different properties than the original compounds.

Topic 1:
Chemical Reaction:
A color change, a change in odor, precipitate formation, form a new structure, change in temperature, and appearance of gas bubbles are all evidence of a chemical reaction.

Topic 2:
Chemical Formulas and Equations
Chemical formula- uses chemical symbols and numbers t represent a given substance
Chemical equation- is an expression that uses symbols to show the relationship between the starting substances the substances that are produced by a chemical reaction.
Reactants- are the substances that precipitate in a chemical reaction. Their chemical formulas are written to the left.
C + O2 ---> CO2
Products- are the substances formed in a reaction. Their chemical formulas are written to the right.
Coefficients n front of a chemical formula, mean that there are two molecules. ex: 2HeCONa mean there are two molecules.
